Updates Check back often to get the latest updates! Jump to Page: 1 2 3 4 5 .. Weekly Update - Conference is Looming! Mar 29 at 7:30 pm We are renting port-a-poties for our Boulder Beach, Lake Mead adventure (for the Concrete Canoe races). There are limited restrooms on site (and the larger bathrooms don't have stalls on the doors) so just be prepared, but please make sure to stay hydrated as we are in a desert. Don't pee in the Lake! The Concrete Canoe reports cannot be submitted electronically, as is stated in the rules. We didn't realize this, and we were just trying to make sure that if a paper grader spilled coffee on your beloved report, we could print another without worrying about it. As was pointed out by UCLA, we cannot ask you to send us electronic copies. So if your copy is ruined by accident by a judge or by the postal service, there is nothing we can do. If you want to have the rule changed, I would suggest sending a request to the National Concrete Canoe Committee. It's also a HUGE waste of paper, and in these times of trying to be sustainable, we should really look at our processes. That's just Dee's two cents about that. (So far, we've received all of the papers from the teams that are participating, and none of them have been lost or set on fire, so I don't want you to worry.) Schools that are not paid in full by the time conference starts (April 7th) in regards to their registration fees will not be able to participate. If you are one of the schools that is in the process of having a check cut from your slow-ass school bureaucracy, please forward us a copy of the paperwork and the contact information for the person that is responsible for cutting the check BEFORE you get here. If we do not have that information when you check in, you will not be able to participate. Please note: We will be setting up the steel bridge competition area on Friday. Under no circumstances will teams be allowed to practice on them. If a team is caught there will be hell to pay. Due to some special requests, we are allowing each school to add one song from any artist to their mystery event play list that is not already included on page two of the mystery event rules. These additional songs will be scored in the same manner as any song appearing in the "easy" song list. All playlists are due by this Thursday, April 1 (and no we are not kidding); playlists received after this date will receive a 5 point penalty per day that they are submitted late to our PSWRC e-mail. The deadline for submitting your representative's date/time of arrival for registration, and the number of parking permits that you will need was yesterday, we are still missing arrival times from many schools so please submit this information soon so we can coordinate everyone's registration time. Don't make me embarrass you, we will call out which schools are missing their stuff in the next update (which will probably be Friday or so, as we get closer to the conference.) The final schedule and maps to navigate your canoes/bridges around campus will be sent out on 4/1, there haven't been any major changes to the schedule, but the schedule for presentations have been updated to reflect the absence of some teams from some schools. If your school is not participating in a particular event, please let us know so that we can update our schedule and judge scoring sheets accordingly. Please have your teams bring their own #2 pencils for the scantron portion of the quiz bowl event. Please remind your student participating in the Mead technical paper presentation that they should email their presentation to our e-mail address by 5pm on April 9th. Furthermore, each presenter should bring their presentation on a flash drive to supplement the digital submission (as a "just in case/backup option). Please distribute any/all relevant information to all of your event leaders and conference attendees! We received quite a few emails from event leaders, from different schools, who did not know about the deadline to submit the dimensions for the GeoChallenge reinforcement coupon (despite the deadline being outlined in two mailers and posted on the calendar on our website). If you don't have the time, tell them that Google is their friend, http://lmgtfy.com/?q=PSWRC and to please visit this website. There is TONNES of stuff on there. For all of the official contacts from each school, please ensure that you put your personal cell phone number on the registration sheet, one that you can be reached at WHILE YOU ARE AT CONFERENCE. Both Dee and Noe have included their personal cell phone numbers in the program and we need to be able to contact you while you are here in the event of an emergency. To clarify, please make sure that you have your people FILL OUT THE WAIVERS FROM THE PSWRC WEBSITE and BRING THEM TO REGISTRATION. This will alleviate congestion at registration, as we don't have to have every student come to the registration desk. Designate about 3 or 4 people from each of your schools to send to the registration table at UNLV. These representatives will hand in ALL of the waivers from their respective schools (which will be checked in real time against their registration), pick up their conference t -shirts, parking passes, programs/schedules of events, etc. Those reps will then go back to their schools and distribute everything. We will also have the program available on the website as of this weekend for people do download and print out. We will assign each school a registration time (as soon as we get all of the arrival times from each of the schools, SOME SCHOOLS HAVE NOT SENT IN THEIR ARRIVAL TIMES). Weekly Update - Dates and Reminders Mar 22 at 9:47 am Please note that the steel bridge competition MUST start at 7am. This means that the students that are the first on the list must be ready to compete at 7am. We will be sure to release an unloading schedule that all schools must follow based on their order in the competition. If you have parents / friends attending and they HAVE NOT REGISTERED they do not get free parking passes. Passes will be available for $10 for the black lot, all three days. These passes will be available to purchase in the William Wells Great Hall (where the lunches will be distributed and where you will be registering). The surveying event schedule has been posted. Please check the website for further details. Please note that in order to gain admission to UNLV's Student Recreation and Wellness Center for the basketball tournament, you will HAVE to have your name badge with you. It is a liability issue if people are not UNLV students or are not covered under the waivers you will be signing. Please be sure to distribute all of the information we give out amongst your student chapter. I know that may seem obvious, but we just wanted to type it outloud. Also, any information that we hand out here is also posted on the website, and please feel free to distribute this mailer to your mailing list in your student chapters (again, if you already are, just sayin'). Also, there is a $200 cash prize for the technical paper winner, so be sure to tighten up those presentations! The Geotechnical / Geochallenge paper dimensions are due this Friday, March 26. Please be sure to have those in to us by then. The deadline for each school to email us with their arrival date and time to Las Vegas, and the number of cars/trailers that will be parked on campus is this Sunday, March 28. This information will determine how many parking passes are included in your registration packet. It will also help us organize your registration, as we will be handing out registration boxes and t-shirts upon your arrival, as well as collecting the waivers that MUST be handed in by every single participant and registered guest. The waiver that is required to be handed out is located on our website under "Registration" and is listed as "PSWRC 2010 Release Agreement" under Mailer III. There is also a "Photo Tour of UNLV" posted on the website under the "Registration" page that shows mostly all of the locations for the events and registration. Please take a look and become familiar with UNLV, it will help you when you arrive. The deadline to turn in the proof of insurance for the car that will be towing your trailer is due in less than 2 weeks, on Wednesday, March 31. This is done to ensure that all vehicles that are pulling trailers on the UNLV campus are insured, should any trailer mishaps occur. This is a requirement from the UNLV legal department and the committee cannot do anything to waive this requirement. Please keep in mind that you are coming to a desert. It is super dry here, so please make sure you have sunscreen and water at all times. Please have your concrete canoe teams e-mail us their concrete canoe report in PDF format. We have been notifying every chapter's representatives as soon as their canoe report has arrived. Remember, reports received today will receive a 5 point penalty towards their final design report score; reports received by Tuesday will receive a 10 point penalty! And remember . . . it's a 5 point penalty per day that it's received. Please keep in mind that you are coming to a desert. It is super dry here, so please make sure you have sunscreen and water at all times. Weekly Update - Reminders Mar 15 at 7:05 pm Hello PSWRC-ers! Only 3 weekends to go until PSWRC 2010! Please remember, at least one person from each school in the region MUST be present at the business meeting in order to advance to the national concrete canoe or steel bridge competition - NO EXCEPTIONS! Wednesday, March 17 is the Alexis Park Hotel reservation deadline. You don't have to be a participant to register so your family and friends can also stay there for that same great rate! The Concrete Canoe Paper MUST be received by this Friday. Reports received after Friday will receive a 5 point deduction per day that it is received late. Due to the recent addition of CBU to our region as special guests, we've updated the schedule for the surveying event. It can be found on the Event Documents page, under Engineering Events. In order to allow the basketball tournament to end on time, the 1st round games were shortened to one period of 15 minutes; the second, third, and final rounds will be composed of two 15 minute periods. For the full schedule please refer to the Event Schedule page. Schools need to bring at least 2 plum bobs for the surveying event. We hope that everyone is having a great time planning for this conference, I know we are! Please be sure to check our Facebook and Twitter accounts for updated pictures.
