Message from Steve Gurske - Cal Poly, SLO ASCE Student Chapter
Apr 15 at 9:25 pm

As some of you may know, the ASCE Student Chapter at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo is hosting the 2010 ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition (NCCC) from June 17th–19th. We would like to formally invite you to join us for this competition. We believe this would be a great opportunity for each of your schools to meet students from across the nation and learn from some of the best concrete canoe teams. We have put together a Spectator Pass to encourage you to attend the competition in June. The Spectator Pass costs $80 per person and includes: parking and lunch for all three days, breakfast on the day of the races, a competition program and T-shirt, and a ticket to the Thursday night ice breaker event with the competing schools.

As mentioned at the awards banquet, please expect scoring to be posted by Saturday, April 17. In the mean time, please take the time to voice comments and criticisms via email at pswrc2010@gmail.com. Also, take the time to browse the media coverage on the concrete canoe races. A big thank you to our sponsors, committee, volunteers, and the various individuals, departments and organizations that helped make this conference possible.

Canoe Reminder
Apr 08 at 11:02 pm

Please remember to set aside sufficient travel time to the concrete canoe event tomorrow morning at Boulder Beach. If you haven't become familiar with the route, please ensure that you have printed yourself a copy of the Canoe Memorandum, available under the Directions & Maps page on the website. Seek other resources if you feel that you may get lost. There will be signs helping to direct you, but it is a somewhat long drive. Yes, there is a $5 fee per vehicle to enter Lake Mead, imposed by the National Park Service. We suggest that you be prepared to pay that fee and bring exact change to prevent complications. No, we cannot provide a more specific schedule besides that provided in the Canoe Memorandum, so be prepared.

Remember that Las Vegas is in the Mojave Desert and that the Sun reflects strongly against water; bring sunscreen and water. Do not depend on the PSWRC committee to give out water. Water is there as a courtesy, primarily as our lunch beverage. Drive and paddle safe!
