Q: There does not seem to be a section in the scoring for identifying the contaminate in the environmental competition. How many points are awarded for contaminate identification?

A: It will be part of your presentation score. How much I am unable to tell you. furthermore, if you can figure out the contaminate it will help you to identify inexpensive ways to remove it. helping both your cost and quality.
Q: For the environmental competition, are we expected to know the contaminate before competition, or are we expected to test the water at competition to identify the contaminate?

A: The contaminate is to be known prior to the competition
Q: For the environmental competition, you said that the water quality will be based on contaminate removal. Could our water be extremely dirty and/or unusable for practical purposes but have 100% of the contaminate removed and we would receive a high score for the "quality of treated water" section of scoring?

A: Contanimate removal will be the focus.
Q: In the water that we are given at competition, will there be the actual contaminant present that is explained in the rules, or will you be using a substitute meant to simulate the contaminate that was actually in Lake Mead in 2001?

A: That is generally part of the surprise, sorry for the lack of additional information.
Q: Regarding the cost analysis for the environmental event, are we able to prorate the supplies used in the construction of the system? Prorate meaning to adjust the cost of an item to the amount used in the system; i.e. 10' of PVC costs $20.00, but the system only requires 1', in turn total cost of PVC for the system = $2.

A: Yes, please prorate the cost of your treatment process to reflect the actual quantity of materials used.
